Advisors - How to Help

Advisers are recognised as the crucial link in the chain of crop protection advice.
Over 95% of the sprayed area is treated following advice from BASIS qualified staff. Advisers have two vital roles to play in the Voluntary Initiative.
1. They need to participate in the activities that directly affect them:
Membership of the BASIS Professional Register
Using Training to strengthen their knowledge in key areas

  • Biodiversity
  • Environmental Protection
  • Application
  •   Following Best Practice for agronomists
    2. Promoting the Voluntary Initiative and its key activities. It is essential that advisers encourage farmer and growers to participate in all the key measures in the Voluntary Initiative. These are:

  • Operators need to join NRoSO
  • Testing of application equipment through NSTS
  • Completing a Crop Protection Management Plan
  • Following Best Practice at all times focussing especially on water protection,      correct application, and selection and use of insecticides.
  • Correct Disposal of unwanted/unapproved products
  • To help train advisers, training materials are being provided to the Advisors Information Network.
