EIS (Environmental Information Sheets) Database
A key element of the VI is the provision of environmental information on crop protection products. Members of the Crop Protection Association (CPA) have committed to do this by producing EIS for all marketed professional products supplied by CPA member companies by the end of the Voluntary Initiative
(31 March 2006).

What is an EIS?
An EIS is composed of clearly presented product specific environmental impact information. It highlights any situations where risk management is essential to ensure environmental protection. EIS reinforce, and supplement, the information presented on a product’s label. The presented risk information on the EIS assumes operator compliance with both the product’s recommended conditions of use and good agricultural practice, as outlined in the “Green Code; Code of Practice for the Safe Use of Pesticides on Farms and Holdings”.

How is an EIS produced?
The crop protection industry has worked together to produce a set of standardised EIS Guidance Notes for EIS authors to follow. The guidance has had input from and been endorsed by the UK pesticide regulatory authority the Pesticides Safety Directorate. A technical audit of randomly selected completed EIS by an independent body has been implemented to provide a quality assurance scheme.

Why & how is an EIS used?
The purpose of EIS is to provide user-friendly information to advisers (including those in the amenity sector), farmers and growers on the environmental impact of crop protection products. By referencing a product’s label and its EIS to the local conditions at the application site product use decisions can be planned and made with a better understanding of the practical implications. EIS do not offer guidance on whether one product is more environmentally acceptable than another.

How to find an EIS
An EIS can be located and viewed by typing into the “search box” below using either the product name or a constituent active ingredient. Not all products currently have an EIS. Failure to locate an EIS on the database will be due to either that the EIS has not yet been produced or that the product is supplied by a company that is not a CPA member. To clarify this further contact the approval holder or marketing
company listed on the product label.
