| VI and Catchment Sensitive Farming |
Defra’s England Catchment Sensitive Farming Delivery Initiative (ECSFDI) is a pilot programme of 40 priority catchments where supportive measures such as farm advice, training and capital grants are being introduced to help reduce soil erosion and nutrient and pesticide losses to surface water. In addition the ECSFDI is providing support to 20 Associate Catchments where similar “voluntary” projects were already in existence.

The ECSFDI is funding the VI to provide pesticide expertise to support the priority and associate catchments. The first part of the VI support has been to review the pesticide risks in the 40 catchments. This analysis has identified an initial 5 catchments where there is a greater risk of pesticides reaching water. In these catchments additional support in the form of expert advice, local decision trees and text messaging are being made available via local agronomists and the local CSF Officer.
