As part of the Voluntary Initiative, the farming and crop protection industries and
seven waste disposal contractors organised the Obsolete Pesticide Disposal
Campaign. Open to farmers and other professional pesticide users, the campaign was an
excellent opportunity to clear out chemical stores and dispose of obsolete pesticides.
Working together for a short campaign (from 14 November 2003- 31st March 2004)allowed
the waste disposal companies to organise efficient collection rounds and thus
ensure that discounts over normal disposal rates are possible.
The contractors who participated in the campaign are continuing to offer a disposal
service although normal disposal rates will apply
It is illegal to store or use any unapproved pesticides, so it is important to ensure
all the pesticides in your store are approved. Many products are losing their approval
as part of the EU Review programme. So check the approval status of your products every year. Your
advisor can help identify those products, which require disposal. The PSD website has
the latest and authoritative list of approved products as well as a list of products
under phased revocation. Alternatively you can download the listing below.

Make sure that watercourses are not contaminated. Never pour
pesticide in any form into soakaways, sewers, drains, ditches or rivers.
